AT PINK BATTALION FITNESS, WE DO THINGS A LITTLE DIFFERENTLY…

WE DON’T DO TRADITIONAL CARDIO. WE DON’T RUN, SPIN, SPRINT OR ROW.
ALL WE DO IS LIFT!

The benefits of weight lifting for women is endless. It results in higher metabolism and increased bone density.  Weight lifting can help correct postural problems, help ease back pain, tighten and strengthen your core. Lifting  builds phenomenal physical strength and self-confidence.

The thing I love most about lifting weights is that anyone can do it.

I’m the most uncoordinated, nonathletic chick on the planet. I haven’t got a sporty bone in my body (the last one picked for sports teams at school? You betcha). But lifting things up and putting them down, this I can do.  And so can you.

PINK BATTALION TRAINING vs TRADITIONAL CARDIO

If you enjoy cardio, then bloody do it if it makes you happy. But if you don’t, there are other ways to improve your fitness.

Cardio is excellent for cardiovascular health. It burns calories while it is being performed until your heart rate returns to normal. Cardio will definitely give you a higher calorie burn per workout as apposed to lifting weights, but weight training promotes muscle growth and muscle burns fat 24/7, even when your heart rate is at a resting level.

For example, a cardio bunny may burn 500 calories in a spin cycle class while a weight lifting gal burns 300 calories in my Muscle Academy (weight lifting) session.  But in a years time, the girl lifting weights (if consistent with her training) will have a higher metabolism every day of the week, due to her muscle mass, than the cardio bunny will.

The other thing about cardio is that as your fitness improves over time your heart doesn’t need to work as hard to get the job done. Less work from your heart equals less calories burned. So if you are using cardio to control your weight you have a few options. You either make your cardio sessions harder, you train for longer or you train more times each week. Now I don’t know about you, but I don’t have time for that!

So doesn’t this happen with weight training too?

Well, if you are lifting little pink neoprene dumbbells then yes, this will happen. You will initially get a little muscle growth, but if you stay on the same weight, the results will plateau. But at Pink Battalion Fitness, although you will start on light weights initially, as you get stronger we will continue to increase the weight. This ensures that your muscles will grow, your body will continue to get stronger and your metabolism will continue to hum along.

MYTHS OF WEIGHT TRAINING FOR WOMEN

There are a lot of myths surrounding weight training for women and the most persistent one is that lifting heavy weights will make you bulky - which is NOT true. Women generally have to work really fucking hard to get ‘bulky’ and those women you see with a lot of visible muscle mass, that’s generally very deliberate.

Strength training is an investment in your future, keeping you strong, building up bone density and it also makes you a bit of a bad ass, so there’s that too. The other fucking wonderful thing is that it is never too late to start!

At Pink Battalion we value being strong and kind to ourselves and others. We focus on how we feel. We are about honouring and respecting our bodies and working around injury and life stages.  Building friendships and guns and having a fuck tonne of laughs along the way.
